Maintaining good oral health is a crucial aspect of overall well-being, and finding the right dentist is the first step on this journey. This guide will walk you through the steps that help you narrow down your choice from the infinite search results on the internet to a dentist you love right in your area – and your network!
1. Use the MySmile® Member Portal: If you’re a Delta Dental of Washington member through your employer, you’re already well on your way to finding the perfect dentist. Sign in to MySmile and use its secure Find a Dentist tool. MySmile knows your plan information, so you don’t have to worry about selecting the right network.
If you don’t already have a MySmile account, just text JOIN to 56675 to sign up or visit DeltaDentalWA.com/mysmile
2. Use the Find a Dentist Tool You can also find an in-network (or participating) dentist by using our public Find a Dentist tool at DeltaDentalWA.com. Since we have multiple dental networks, you’ll need to be sure you select your plan’s network when using it. You can find your plan’s dental network on your benefit summary.
3. Ask for recommendations: You don’t have to take it from us. Your network of friends and family know you best and can recommend providers that are sure to satisfy most of your criteria. Your friends, neighbors, and colleagues are an excellent source of information. Ask about their experiences, the quality of care they received, and if they would recommend their dentist. Personal referrals often provide valuable insights that you may not find in online reviews.
4. Consider Specializations: Dentistry encompasses various specialties, including general dentistry, orthodontics, periodontics, and more. Consider your specific dental needs when choosing a dentist. If you have children, a family dentist may be the best fit. If you require specialized care, such as braces or dental implants, look for a dentist with expertise in those areas. With Delta Dental of Washington’s Find a Dentist tool, you can search for specific specialists.
5. Evaluate Accessibility: Convenience is a key factor in maintaining regular dental check-ups. Consider the location of the dentist’s office in relation to your home or workplace. Check office hours to ensure they align with your schedule, and inquire about the availability of emergency appointments. A dentist with a convenient location and flexible hours can make dental care more accessible for you.
6. Insurance and Payment Options: Before finalizing your decision, confirm that the dentist accepts your dental insurance plan. This information is crucial to avoid unexpected out-of-pocket expenses. Additionally, inquire about the clinic’s payment policies and whether they offer alternative payment options, such as financing plans. The Find a Dentist tool allows you to filter for your specific benefits plan, helping you find a dentist covered by your plan.
7. Schedule a Consultation: To get a better feel for a dentist, simply give them a call. Use this opportunity to discuss your oral health goals, ask questions about their approach to dentistry, and assess the overall atmosphere of the clinic. A comfortable and welcoming environment can contribute to a positive dental experience.
